Star of Scream 4 will battle Ghostface once more, as a handful of cast members are confirmed for the upcoming sequel Scream 6.
It emerged over at The Hollywood Reporter that Hayden Panettiere will reprise her role as Kirby Reed in the upcoming Scream 6. Also confirmed were the young stars of Scream 5, Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding and Jenna Ortega.
Scream 5 arrived earlier this year, just over a decade since Wes Craven’s swansong Scream 4. Making over $140 million worldwide on a budget of just $24 million, a sequel was more or less inevitable. The same creative team are set to return, with co-directors Tyler Gillet and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin working from a screenplay by writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick.
Plot details are being kept under wraps for the sixth instalment, which is due to go before the cameras this summer, though production companies Spyglass Media and Paramount Pictures have said that Scream 6 “continues with the four survivors of the Ghostface killings as they leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter”.
It has not yet been officially confirmed if franchise stalwarts Neve Campbell and Courtney Cox will be back, but given they’ve returned for every entry thus far, we’d say it’s a pretty safe bet.
Scream 6 is due to be released March 31st 2023.
