Hugh Jackman will be responsible for more steel claw based carnage as Wolverine in the upcoming Deadpool 3.
Crikey. Here’s a news story we weren’t expecting to write, but write it we shall: Hugh Jackman is back as Wolverine, over half a decade after retiring the role.
Immediate questions about how and why, given the pretty unambiguous ending of 2016’s superb
Logan, are things we can only speculate about at the moment. As Marvel boss Kevin Feige explains, “anything’s possible in the multiverse”
Ryan Reynolds revealed the news in a typically deadpan video on social media, in which he states that “every ‘
Deadpool needs to stand out and stand apart. It’s been an incredible challenge that has forced me to reach down deep inside. And I have nothing. Yeah, just completely empty up here. And terrifying. But we did have one idea”
Shawn Levy, with whom Reynolds made
Free Guy and
The Adam Project, will direct from a screenplay by Reynolds’ regular writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
Reese confirmed that, despite being in the MCU,
Deadpool 3 would not compromise on their trademark risqué humour and remain R rated or, presumably, 15 in the UK.
Watch the video below, which also reveals that
Deadpool 3 will hit cinemas on the 6th September 2024.
