Guy Ritchie’s In The Grey is finally heading to cinemas this May, nearly a year and a half after its original release date.

Update: Weeks after we heard about an April release for Guy Ritchie’s In The Grey, the thriller has been delayed again. As a trailer for the long-in-the-making ensemble finally emerges, production company Black Bear has announced that it’s getting a US cinema release on the 15th May 2026.

For those keeping track of such things, In The Grey – written, directed and produced by Ritchie, a true auteur – was originally shot in the autumn of 2023.

After some confusion over who was going to release it in cinemas, it looks as though the film – a caper about an ‘impossible heist’ of billions of dollars – is finally ready to emerge You can see the new trailer, featuring Jake Gyllenhaal, Henry Cavill, Eiza Gonzales and Rosamund Pike, below. It looks very Ritchie-esque.

Our previous story follows…

28th January 2026: It’s been a long time since we’ve updated this story, given that it’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about the film itself. In The Grey was originally set to hit cinemas back in January 2025, back when Lionsgate was distributing. Lionsgate dropped out though, and the company that backed the movie – Black Bear – is now distributing it itself.

Touch wood the film is good, and we now have a release date of 10th April 2026 for the movie. That’s, by my terrible maths, some 15 months later than planned….

Here’s our original story from way back in November 2024

November 2024: British director Guy Ritchie was set to release two films in 2025, but things are less certain now given that the first of those two releases, In The Grey, has been removed from its January release slot by Lionsgate.

Ritchie wrote and directed the thriller, while the cast features Henry Cavill, Jake Gyllenhaal, Eiza Gonzalez, Carlos Bardem, Fisher Stevens, Jason Wong, and Rosamund Pike. Two extraction specialists (played by Cavill and Gyllenhaal) must designate a route of escape for a senior female negotiator (Gonzalez). It was shot in the Canary Islands last year.

The stated reason for the film’s delay (per Deadline) is a simple one: it isn’t finished. Ritchie has been exceedingly prolific in the last couple of years, delivering two films in 2023, plus The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare this year. We may still get both of the scheduled Ritchie films slated for 2025 – it just means we might be waiting a little longer for the first one.

As for the second 2025 film, that’s Fountain Of Youth, starring Eiza González (again), John Krasinski and Natalie Portman. It’s labelled as an adventure fantasy mystery and is backed by Apple and Skydance.

The synopsis states:

Two estranged siblings join forces to seek the legendary Fountain of Youth. Using historical clues, they embark on an epic quest filled with adventure. If successful, the mythical fountain could grant them immortality.

Filming wrapped in May 2024, with part of the shoot heading to Cairo, Egypt. There are no details as to when we can expect it to release. Given the recent furore we’ve seen with Jon Watts walking away from a Wolfs sequel because Apple refused to release the original film theatrically, we wonder what the distribution plan for it is. We’ll let you know as we hear more.
