Top Gun is 40 years old. While you process that, a new 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Steelbook of the film has just gone up for sale.

After what turned out to be a pretty good year for physical media sales, the release lists for 2026 are growing at speed. A sentence that looks like it’s been written by some AI slop machine, but a) physical media sales are on the up, and b) it’s early in the morning and the coffee is underdelivering.

Just to make a whole bunch of you feel nice and young, the film Top Gun, then, is celebrating its 40th birthday this year. Directed by Tony Scott and headlined by Tom Cruise, Kelly McGillis, Meg Ryan, Anthony Edwards, Tim Robbins and the late Val Kilmer. Paramount Pictures isn’t missing the opportunity to mark the occasion, either, with first and foremost Top Gun heading back into cinemas in the UK later this year.

And then there’s a Steelbook 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray physical media release. It’s not a fresh 4K in the box by the looks of it, with the existing 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc already pretty decent. Instead, as is something of a norm, the new anniversary Steelbook will be a posh box with some new artwork. A price tag to match too, of course.
