The Sean Connery era of James Bond 007 is heading to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc for the first time. More on the releases here.

Widely rumoured at the end of last year, it’s now been confirmed that six Sean Connery James Bond films are being gathered together for their 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray debut.

The only absentee from the set, as you’d expect, is the ‘unofficial’ James Bond film that Connery made, Never Say Never Again.

Instead, the six that are featured in the upcoming boxset are Dr No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice and Diamonds Are Forever. They’re not going to be put on sale individually (at least not yet), and as such your options are a 4K boxset, or a Steelbook boxset (which has predictably sold very quickly).

The boxset listing can be found here.

There’s no date announced as of yet, although pre-orders have begun. Last year, it was being rumoured that the sets would be around in time for the summer, and we wait and see if that’s still going to be the case.

What is clear is that the extra features from the substantive Blu-ray editions of the films are all being carried over. There’s no sign of fresh supplements, but there’s still going to be an awful lot of material included. The set is going to come with a 12 certificate, by the looks of things. Warner Bros is handling the release.

Presumably, and there’s been no announcement here, the plan is then for 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray physical media releases of the Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan eras of 007, as well as a release somewhere along the lines for George Lazenby in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. All five Daniel Craig James Bond adventures are already available on the format. We’ll update this post with final artwork and a release date as we get it.
