James Gunn took to Instagram to announce that Superman Legacy is now just called Superman. There’s also a new look at the Superman insignia.

Production on James Gunn’s Superman film is ramping up. Gunn recently shared a photo of the entire cast together, including a very bald Nicholas Hoult who will be playing iconic villain Lex Luthor.

Yesterday (29th February), Gunn took to Instagram once again to share a first sneak peek of the brand new Superman insignia.

The Superman logo has a bit of snow around it, which could suggest we’re getting a scene set in Superman’s arctic retreat, The Fortress of Solitude. The film will be the first entry in Gunn’s new DC Universe.

Gunn wrote on Instagram, “Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday.”

Plot twist! The film is no longer called Superman Legacy.

“When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN.  Making our way to you July 2025.”

David Corenswet plays the titular superhero, with Rachel Brosnahan playing Lois Lane. The rest of the sizeable cast includes Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardener, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher and María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica/The Engineer.

Milly Alcock was recently cast as Supergirl, and while she’s not part of the announced cast for Superman, many are speculating she could show up for a cameo. Gunn’s brother Sean Gunn will also be making a brief appearance as Maxwell Lord in the film.

If recent rumours are accurate, Superman could also be one of the most expensive superhero movies ever made, with a reported budget (via World of Reel) in the range of $363m.

Warner Bros is releasing Superman on 11th July, 2025.
