Producer Jason Blum says Paranormal Activity: Next Of Kin was “terrible”, and declares no interest in making Paranormal Activity 8.

It’s been a very useful cash generator for Blumhouse Productions and Paramount Pictures, but producer Jason Blum has declared enough is enough: the Paranormal Activity saga is over.

The seventh film in the series, Paranormal Activity: Next Of Kin, quietly snuck out last year, and there had been some chatter about whatever shape Paranormal Activity 8 was going to take. But the answer to that is simple: it won’t be taking any shape at all. It is a dead franchise. At least until a reboot that definitely won’t happen.

“It has been enough already”, Blum told Variety in an interview to promote Halloween Ends. “That last Paranormal Activity movie was terrible”. I’ve not had the pleasure, but when the producer of the thing provides a poster quote like that, it does not feel like a ringing endorsement.

He naturally leaves the door open should an interesting filmmaker come up with a fresh idea for the films. But for the minute, Blum suggests he’s walking away. We’ll see.

Paranormal Activity: Next Of Kin is, er, available on demand now.
