Jeff Bridges reveals he is all set to return to the TRON series that he helped to establish all the way back in 1982, for TRON: Ares.
After many years of waiting, TRON: Ares, a sequel to 2010ās TRON: Legacy, is finally in production. TRON: Legacy's director Joseph Kosinski hasnāt returned and neither have any of the filmās stars ā well, apart from one (you can probably guess who it is from the headline). It doesnāt even look like Daft Punk will be returning to give us another memorable score for the third film in the TRON franchise.
Itās not quite all-new though, with reports stating that Jeff Bridges is all set to make an appearance in the film. Bridges himself revealed the news on the Film Comment podcast, stating that he was excited to be working with Jared Leto, the star of TRON: Ares.
“I’m heading off this Saturday to play a part in the third installment of the TRON story,ā he told the podcast. āJared Leto is the star of this third one. I’m really anxious to work with him. I’ve admired his work.”
Lucky for Bridges that he got to star in a TRON movie with Leto rather than a Suicide Squad film, as his method style of preparation for playing the Joker in that film infamously left some of his fellow cast members feeling less than thrilled about working alongside him.
Speaking of less than thrilled, Jeff Bridges has also been talking about his growing anticipation for the new TRON film, not least because of the filmās apparent focus on practical techniques. Speaking about the production of TRON: Legacy, Bridges referred to the digitally-de-aged version of himself that appeared in that film, saying: “I didn’t like the way I looked in it. I felt like I looked more like Bill Maher than myself. It was kind of bizarre.”
Apparently, that won’t be a problem with Ares as Bridges says he hears “there’s going to be even less AI stuff” and there are more practical sets and techniques being used: “There are beautiful sets that I’ve seen. So we’ll see.”
Weāve already heard one of the filmās stars, Cameron Monaghan, talk about these sets being āamazingā, so consider our interest firmly piqued.
In the new film, Leto will play the titular Ares, āa computer program who has escaped the grid and come to our real world.ā
Joachim Rønning directs, while Evan Peters, Greta Lee, Gillian Anderson, Jodie Turner-Smith, Hasan Minhaj, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan and Sarah Desjardins are all set to appear in the film which is slated to release at the back end of next year. Weāll bring you more on this one as we hear it.
