Only yesterday we reported on John Boyega discussing how he felt that franchise filmmaking felt like a being in a ‘luxury prison’ to him. Most likely, the actor was referring to his time working on the Star Wars sequel films, which swallowed up much of his career over the last five or six years and left him feeling ultimately dissatisfied. Boyega’s point was seemingly that he, as an actor, was far more interested in stretching himself and improving his craft by taking on a wealth of roles and experiences.
Well, as experiences go, this one’s not a bad start. Not only is Boyega lining up opposite screen legend Robert De Niro for his next project, The Formula, but the movie, shooting for Netflix, is a Formula One heist thriller. Whoever dreamed up that idea definitely had an extra Shredded Wheat in their breakfast that day.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie will be directed by Gerard McMurray (Burning Sands), and he’s also written the script and will be one of the film’s producers.
