Joker 2 and another DC origin film coming from Todd Phillips

Director Todd Phillips is set to make at least two more DC films for Warner Bros.

As expected, Warner Bros is set to press ahead with a sequel to its $1bn grossing Joker movie, that’ll see Joaquin Phoenix return in the title role. Furthermore, Todd Phillips will be back as director.

It’s being reported too that Phillips approached Warner Bros with the idea of making a collection of origin stories to DC characters. That wasn’t something Warner Bros was keen on him doing, but it nonetheless looks to have done a deal that covers both Joker 2 and an unnamed further DC origin story.

Details on the latter are unsurprisingly on the scarce side. But in the case of Joker 2, Phillips will once again also be penning the screenplay for the movie once more, along with Scott Silver.

The Hollywood Reporter also reckons that Phillips himself is set to trouser nearly $100m from the success of Joker, given that he deferred his salary in exchange for a higher slice of the film’s back end.

More news on the upcoming films as we hear it.
