Gareth Edwards’ Jurassic World sequel will now be known as Jurassic World: Rebirth and there’s a couple of images to go with the title announcement.
We learned earlier this year that Gareth Edwards’ Jurassic World sequel would begin filming in July and we’ve now got our very first look at the film’s cast in action.
Officially titled Jurassic World: Rebirth, the film will be set five years after the events of Jurassic World: Dominion when “the planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs,” according to the official synopsis, shared by Deadline. “Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures within that tropical biosphere hold the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.”
Deadline also reports that Scarlett Johansson is due to play Zora, “a skilled covert operations expert contracted to lead a team on a top-secret mission to secure genetic material from the world’s three most massive dinosaurs. When Zora’s operation intersects with a civilian family whose boating expedition was capsized by marauding aquatic dinos, they all find themselves stranded on an island where they come face-to-face with a sinister, shocking discovery that’s been hidden from the world for decades.”
Other cast members include Jonathan Bailey as paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis, Mahershala Ali as Zora’s most trusted team leader, Duncan Kincaid, Rupert Friend as Big Pharma representative Martin Krebs and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Reuben Delgado, the father of the shipwrecked civilian family.
Considering Edwards’ work in visual effects heavy films, we suspect Jurassic World: Rebirth will look immaculate. The script is also written by David Koepp, who also penned the original Jurassic Park. After the lukewarm reception of the last two Jurassic World films, the franchise is in dire need of course correction so Universal are hoping to do just that with Rebirth.
Jurassic World: Rebirth is currently scheduled to be released on 2nd July, 2025.
