The wraps are coming off Kevin Costner’s hugely ambitious Horizon: An American Saga, with a world premiere next month.

While we still don’t have news on a UK distributor for the film, Kevin Costner is gearing up to release the first two parts of his return to directing over the coming months. That’s in the form of Horizon: An American Saga, envisaged as four western movies. So far, Costner has shot two of them, which are being released this summer. Then, it’s back before the cameras to shoot chapters three and four.

Now we get news that at least the first film is to get its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next month, with a debut set for Sunday 19th May. Kevin Costner will be attending the premiere along with members of his cast. And he sounds really rather pleased about it all.

In a statement, Costner said that “I’d like to thank the Festival de Cannes for including my film Horizon: An American Saga in this year’s selection.

“It’s been 20 years since I’ve had the pleasure of being on the Croisette. I’ve been waiting for the right time to return and I’m proud to say that this time has come. Horizon: An American Saga is a story that began 35 years ago, and I can’t think of a better place than Cannes to reveal to the world the result of such a wonderful adventure. The French have always supported films and believed deeply in filmmaking. Just as I believe deeply in my film.”

As well as having directed for the first time since 2003’s brilliant Open Range, Costner has co-written the script for Horizon with Jon Baird. He also takes on the lead role, amongst a deep ensemble.

We’re really rather looking forward to the films, and hopefully UK distribution can be sorted shortly. In the US, the first two movies are out on 28th June and 16th August.
