Disney confirms Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes will be racing to Disney+ just three months after its cinema debut.
Released in cinemas at the start of May, Disney appears to be in something of a hurry to get Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes to its Disney+ streaming service. The Wes Ball-directed feature has, in fairness, had a good theatrical run, and returned nearly $400m in box office takings. It’s also getting a full physical media release, with a DVD, Blu-ray and 4K disc option all arriving in September.
However, we’re back at the point where Disney is prioritising its Disney+ service ahead of a physical media outing. It’s announced that Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes will be arriving on the streaming platform from 2nd August, which is just under two weeks away by our cunning calculations.
Disney has also made available the nine previous Planet Of The Apes films on its platform, and in particular, the original run of five movies are ripe for rediscovery. As much as people rightly praise the 1968 original movie, and the subsequent 2011-2017 trilogy of films, the follow-ups to the first film remain a whole lot of fun.
The first nine films are available now to stream, and Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes isn’t far behind. We’ll leave you with the synopsis for it…
Director Wes Ball breathes new life into the global, epic franchise with this action-adventure spectacle from 20th Century Studios. Set several generations in the future following Caesar’s reign, apes are living harmoniously as the dominant species — and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows. As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.
