A release date has also been announced for the much-hyped action film Boy Kills World, starring Bill Skarsgård.
Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions have announced that they will be sharing the distribution rights to Boy Kills World, the buzzy action film that garnered quite the response when it debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Sam Raimi has produced the film, which is directed by Moritz Mohr. The cast includes Bill Skarsgård, Michelle Dockery, Jessica Rothe and Famke Janssen.
Skarsgård stars as ‘Boy, a deaf-mute with a vivid imagination, driven by his inner voice, one which he co-opted from his favourite childhood video game, avows revenge after his family is murdered by Hilda Van Der Koy (Janssen), the deranged matriarch of a corrupt post-apocalyptic dynasty that left the boy orphaned, deafened, and voiceless.
‘Boy trains with a mysterious shaman (Ruhian) to become an instrument of death and is set loose on the eve of the annual culling of dissidents. Bedlam ensues as Boy commits bloody martial arts mayhem, inciting a wrath of carnage and blood-letting. As he tries to get his bearings in this delirious realm, Boy soon falls in with a desperate resistance group, all the while bickering with the apparent ghost of his rebellious little sister.’
It all sounds deliciously bananas, doesn’t it?
The film debuted to strong audience reaction at TIFF and we’ve been waiting to see who would eventually pick it up.
With Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions having done that according to Deadline, a release date for the film has also been announced. The film will be releasing on the 26th of April which will see it thrown into contention with Luca Guagadino’s Challengers and Alex Garland’s Civil War (although we’re hearing that Civil War may be moving forward a few weeks). That’s looks like being quite the moviegoing week if you ask us.
We’ll bring you more on the film as we hear it, including the trailer which is sure to drop in the coming days now that we have a firm release date. Buzz for this one is strong so keep an eye out for it.
