The 1983 classic Local Hero is getting a fresh UK cinema outing to mark its 40th anniversary: more details right here.

Now here’s some lovely news. If you’ve not had the considerable pleasure of Bill Forsyth’s movie Local Hero, then there’s going to be a rare chance to catch it on the big screen later this year.

Starring Burt Lancaster, Peter Riegert, Peter Capaldi, Denis Lawson and Fulton Mackay, the film celebrates its 40th birthday this year, and Park Circus is set to give it a limited UK cinema re-release.

It’s earmarked the release for May 19th, which sounds like some bold counter-programming, given that’s the weekend that Fast X roars into cinemas. But genuinely, if you’ve never had the pleasure of Local Hero, do seek it out. It’s going to be on around 25 or so screens, and it’s a real delight.

Here’s a trailer for it, to whet your appetite…
