The folk horror Queen Of Bones reveals dark secrets hidden in the woods, and Martin Freeman is to star.

Alex Garland’s Men was perhaps the most recent film to really tap into the folk horror genre, the terrifying truths lurking behind a small community. Now? Here comes another entry.

Queen Of Bones seems to be in a similar area. It follows twin siblings Lily and Sam, who live in a remote house with their widowed father, Malcolm, a violinmaker in 1931 Oregon. When Lily and Sam find an Icelandic spell book in the cellar, they begin to suspect a connection between their mother’s death and dark forces in the woods. They then embark on a dangerous mission to force their father and his friend, Ida May, to reveal the truth.

Julia Butters and Jacob Tremblay star as Lily and Sam, with Martin Freeman as Malcolm and Taylor Schilling as Ida.

Robert Budreau directs from a screenplay by Michael Burgner.

Queen Of Bones is currently in production in Canada. When we hear of a release date, we’ll let you know…
