Just how long can Martin Scorsese’s epic drama Killers Of The Flower Moon get? The answer, it seems continues to grow.

As far back as last summer, Cannes was said to be finding it difficult to programme the world premiere date for Martin Scorsese’s highly-anticipated serial killer period drama, Killers Of The Flower Moon due to the film’s colossal length. Apple has financed the drama, which has a reported budget of $200m, a star-studded cast, with Scorsese seemingly having carte blanche to make the film that he wants to, no matter what running time it eventually clocks in at.

According to reports today, that carte blanche may well extend to four hours, a wildly long cut that is especially eye-raising now that we’ve recently learned that the film is set to get a wide theatrical release too. Variety is reporting that the runtime of the film is ‘almost four hours’, a mighty challenge for even the sturdiest of rears.

Still, the film is definitely headed to Apple TV+ where you can enjoy its sizeable length from the comfort of your sofa. It’s unlikely that Apple will be worrying too much about indulging Scorsese’s whims: a wide theatrical run will act as the perfect marketing tool for the film, whilst audiences put off  heading to cinemas by the reported running time will only bring more viewers to the company’s streaming platform to catch the film from the comfort of their homes.

The period drama starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jesse Plemons, Lily Gladstone and Robert De Niro ‘takes place in 1920s Oklahoma and depicts a string of brutal murders of Osage Nation Native Americans, which came to be known as the Reign of Terror. The Osage Nation, who were the richest people per capita in the world, were killed one by one after oil was discovered on their land. As the death toll rose, the newly-created FBI took up the case and unraveled a chilling conspiracy and one of the most monstrous crimes in American history.’

The film is set to launch in cinemas in October with an Apple TV+ release sometime soon after that. We’ll bring you more on Killers Of The Flower Moon as we hear it.
