A major character is coming to the cast of Hocus Pocus 2, with Cher and Diana Ross touchpoints for her casting.
Right now, Anne Fletcher is preparing to shoot Hocus Pocus 2, the Disney+ sequel to 1993’s fondly remembered Halloween movie. One of the bigger parts of this prep will be casting the film’s new roles. The fresh main characters are a cast of new teens, but there’s a big star role that will also need filling – the mother of the Sanderson sisters, the star witches played by Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy.
While we don’t know yet who has the role, we know the type they’re looking for. Fletcher’s shopping list is topped with a “stunning, ageless beauty” in the vein of “Cher or Diana Ross.”
You’ll notice that both of those examples have real musical chops. Not to spoil anything, but there’s a good (and somewhat obvious) reason for that.
Hocus Pocus 2 is due to premiere on Disney+ in 2022 – somewhere in the run up to Halloween, we’re willing to bet. Alongside the Enchanted sequel Disenchanted and Shrunk, the next sequel to Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, it seems like the Disney+ strategy for 2022 is a nostalgic one…
A bit like the schedule for 2021 too, in fact.
