The star power of Greta Gerwig’s planned Narnia film continues to rise with the news that Carey Mulligan is set to join the production.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Promising Young Woman star is in negotiations to nab a key role in Narnia, Greta Gerwig’s upcoming adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles Of Narnia novels for Netflix.

With such revered source material, Netflix backing the project and an IMAX theatrical run said to be in place, this project could finally give Netflix the kind of cultural cachet that its film releases – even the better quality ones – tend to lack. Gerwig’s feature is reportedly set to adapt the sixth novel of the series, The Magician’s Nephew.

Currently, the outlet states that the production is well into its casting phase. With Daniel Craig, Emma Mackey, Meryl Streep and now Mulligan seemingly on board, we’d imagine that most of the plum roles are now filled, apart from the project’s young leads of course. Apparently the search to cast those parts is still ongoing.

For her part, Mulligan is renowned for her tasteful choices, having crafted an enviable of filmography that includes films such as She Said, Drive and Promising Young Woman.

Sally Sparrow, too. What a character.

In Gerwig’s upcoming film, should things stay true to the books,  The Magician’s Nephew follows ‘two youngsters who, thanks to an uncle’s magic dabbling, unleash the evil White Witch into a turn of the 20th century London.’ Mulligan is set to play the ‘very sick mother of Digory, one of the two kids in the adventure.’

We’ll bring you more on the casting for this project as we hear it.
