A star studded animated adaptation of A Christmas Carol is on the way at Netflix, and here’s the first trailer.

A Christmas Carol must be one of the most frequently adapted texts in the history of filmmaking. From Alistair Sim’s iconic take on the miserly character in 1951’s Scrooge to Michael Caine’s equally loved performance in 1992’s The Muppet Christmas Carol, there is endless variation in what filmmakers can do with the concept.

It seems, though, that Netflix is sticking to the classic formula for their new animated musical adaptation. Scrooge: A Christmas Carol will follow the classic story of the nihilistic Scrooge as he is visited by three ghosts on Christmas night, imploring him to change his ways.

Luke Evans voices Scrooge, and alongside him in the cast are Olivia Colman, Jessie Buckley, Johnny Flynn, Fra Fee, Giles Terera, Trevor Dion Nicholas, James Cosmo and Jonathan Pryce

Stephen Donnelly writes and directs, with music and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse OBE and an original score by Jeremy Holland-Smith.

Scrooge: A Christmas Carol will be released via Netflix on the 2nd December. Watch the trailer below:
