Studio Ghibli and Lucasfilm have collaborated on Star Wars themed short film Zen – Grogu And Dust Bunnies – and it’s available now.

An enigmatic Twitter post by the Studio Ghibli account last week (which, incidentally, is definitely the officially verified one and not some chancer who’s paid $8, before anyone is accused of fake news) shows a cryptic video that displayed the logos of the two companies: its own, and that of Lucasfilm. The post sparked a maelstrom of manic speculation and intrigue.

Over the weekend, the news was confirmed – Ghibli and Lucasfilm have made a short film called Zen – Grogu And Dust Bunnies together. The film focuses on The Mandalorian breakout character Grogu, otherwise known as Baby Yoda. It has been hand drawn and features music by Ludwig Göransson, who most recently penned the score for Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Ghibli’s last film was 2020’s Earwig And The Witch, while Hayao Miyazaki is currently in production on How Do You Live?, his first film in over ten years, since 2013’s The Wind Rises.

Lucasfilm, meanwhile, has been kept busy with the multitude of Star Wars television shows like The Mandalorian and The Book Of Bobba Fett. Obi Wan-Kenobi and Andor, with Star Wars feature films from Taika Watiti and Rian Johnson in the works.

Zen – Grogu And Dust Bunnies was released on Disney+ on the 12th of November and is available to watch now.
