Much-loved Star Wars videogame Knights Of The Old Republic, about the early years of the Jedi, could soon become a TV series.
Lucasfilm is determined to chart out untapped eras of the Star Wars universe for TV and film development, and the early days of the jedi seems to be a real focal point.
We’ve already had The Acolyte, a TV show that attempted to tell a different type of story about the order of space monks. It was cancelled after its first season failed to land with audiences. Then there’s James Mangold’s currently film project, which is said to chart the origin of the Jedi, although who knows when that will finally arrive.
According to a new claim by Daniel Richtman (via CBM), that may not signal the entirety of Lucasfilm’s attempts to make this early era of the Star Wars universe a goldmine for storytelling. The report states that the studio is working on an adaptation of the beloved videogame series Knights Of The Old Republic, an early 2000s RPG that remains popular with fans to this day.
Set some 4,000 years before the events of the original Star Wars trilogy, the series featured lots of Jedi, Sith users and lightsaber battles, and delved into what the Old Republic era of Star Wars could look like. It spawned a sequel, a long-running MMO game and novels and comic books.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard that Lucasfilm might be developing this corner of the Star Wars universe; the studio’s boss, Kathleen Kennedy, stated that it was “something to look at” in 2019. According to Richtman, however, plans are now further along and he states that ‘Lucasfilm is developing a show set during the Knights Of The Old Republic era’.
Known affectionately bf fans as KOTOR, a remake of the game has also been in the works for some time, although nobody seems to quite know what’s going on with it. Should the project still be in development (and we’re guessing that’s the case), then the release of a TV show alongside a modern day remake of one of the most popular Star Wars stories of all time could create the kind of buzz that Lucasfilm’s Star Wars projects have lacked for some time.
On a more positive note, Lucasfilm’s kid-friendly adventure series Skeleton Crew has been well-received so far, and there’s also the second (and final) season of Andor on the way in 2025. On the film side of things, The Mandalorian And Grogu has wrapped its production and is due for release in 2026.
We’ll bring you more on this one as we hear it.
