Extraction 2 is set to outdo the standards set by its predecessor, making the action sequences bigger and better: here’s the first footage.Extraction came out at a time action films felt like they were changing again. The Bourne style shakey-cam style was no longer in vogue, with the likes of John Wick and Atomic Blonde setting new approached in mainstream screen action.
The plot focussed on Chris Hemsworth’s Tyler Rake, as he undertakes a dangerous mission to rescude the kidnapped son of an Indian drug lord, but after being double crossed he takes revenge.
The film is noted for director Sam Hargrave’s approach to the action sequences, most notably a lengthy single take sequence, known in the industry as a ‘one-er’, which sees Hemsworth take on gang of villains using fists, feet and guns. A remarkable achievement, it proves that stunt performers deserve their own accolade at the Oscars, something people like Jason Statham have advocated for in the past.
Now, we have the first footage from Extraction 2. A behind the scenes glimpse during production, it shows off some of the action sequences, from gun battles to fist fights, promising to better the one-shot fight by “pushing it even further, with a sequence more extreme and more intricate than before”.
The same creative team return for the new film, with Hargrave directing from a script by Joe Russo, who also produces alongside Anthony Russo. Hemsworth also returns, alongside Golshifteh Farahani and newcomers Daniel Bernhardt and Tinatin Dalakishvili.
Extraction 2 is set to be released on Netflix next year. Watch the footage below…
