Netflix has commissioned a raft of new shows in the UK. Without further ado, the details are as follows:
First up is House Of Guinness, a new drama from the pen of Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. Read the synopsis below:
House Of Guinness will tell the story of one of Europe’s most famous and enduring dynasties – The Guinness Family. Set in 19th-century Dublin and New York, it will focus on the consequences of the death of Benjamin Guinness, the man responsible for the extraordinary success of the Guinness brewery, and the far-reaching impact of his cunning will on the fate of his four adult children, Arthur, Edward, Anne, and Ben, as well as on a group of Dublin characters who work and interact with the growing juggernaut that is one of the most beloved alcoholic drinks today.
Next up is Adolescence, a four part series from director Philip Barantini and actor Stephen Graham, who previously collaborated on the brilliant single take drama and subsequent television series Boiling Point. Graham will co-write the scripts with Jack Thorne, with Barantini directing. The plot is being kept under wraps, but it is described as “ambitious crime drama told in a real-time, Boiling Point-style one shot”.
The Undertow will see Jamie Dornan play the dual roles of Adam and Lee. The synopsis reads as follows:
Suffocating in a loveless marriage to Adam, Nicola’s (Mackenzie Davis) life takes a dramatic turn when Adam’s long-estranged identical twin brother Lee comes crashing back into her life, and their tangled romantic past threatens to destroy the present.
The cast also includes Iain De Caestecker and Gary Lewis. Sarah Dollard writes and produces, its other scripts written by Hanna Jameson, Scout Cripps, and Kam Odedra. Jeremy Lovering will direct and executive produce.
The Choic is a political thriller from the pen of Bridge Of Spies writer Matt Charman. The synopsis reads as follows:
Abigail Dalton (Suranne Jones), the recently elected British Prime Minister fighting for office thanks to a healthcare crisis. Vivienne Toussaint (Julie Delpy), is the first female French President campaigning for re-election no matter what — including tackling France’s borders. A summit between the two women could be the answer to their prayers, if they can agree. But when Dalton’s husband is kidnapped and Toussaint is blackmailed, they both face unimaginable choices. Forced into a fierce rivalry where their political futures, and lives, might hang in the balance, can they work together to uncover the plot that threatens them both?”
As if that wasn’t enough, a seventh series of Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror was also confirmed. One of the episodes will be a sequel to USS Callister.
Other announcements included an adaptation of Marian Keyes’ novel Grown Ups by screenwriter Samantha Strauss and The Witness, a drama about the murder of Rachel Nickell on Wimbledon Common from the perspective of her son Alex Hanscombe, which will be written by Rob Williams.
Casting details were also revealed for several projects. Bank Of Dave: The Sequel will star Amit Shah as Oliver, Def Leppard as themselves, Pearce Quigley as David H, Leila Farzad as Margot, Dan Fogler as Detective Mitch Adams and Rob Delaney as Carlo Mancini.
The next Harlen Coben adaptation, Missing You, includes Rosalind Eleazar as Kat Donovan, Jessica Plummer as Stacey Embalo, Richard Armitage as Ellis Stagger, Lenny Henry as Clint Donovan, Steve Pemberton as Titus, Paul Kaye as Monte Leburne, Samantha Spiro as Nurse Sally Steiner, Lisa Faulkner as Dana Fells and Mary Malone as Aqua.
