As a new trailer for the upcoming Fast X roars into view, it has been confirmed that Louis Leterrier will helm the franchise finale.

Ahead of its release on May 19th, Universal has released a new trailer for Fast X. As is sometimes the fashion with action franchises, the final story is being split across two films with Fast X marking the first of those two instalments.

Lots of familiar names from the franchise are present, along with a few new faces too. Vin Diesel, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, John Cena, Charlize Theron, Cardi B, Helen Mirren, Michael Rooker, Scott Eastwood and Jason Momoa all feature.

The production of Fast X got off to something of a rocky start around a year ago with the sudden departure of director, Justin Lin just days into the shoot. The series mainstay left the production over creative differences and was quickly replaced by Louis Leterrier. Despite having his hands full, Leterrier seems to have navigated a smooth passage for the production, so much so that alongside the new trailer, Universal Pictures has announced that he will next be directing the final film in the franchise.

Here’s the synopsis for Fast X, which arrives in cinemas in a month’s time. You can find that trailer below.

Over many missions and against impossible odds, Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his family have outsmarted, out-nerved and outdriven every foe in their path. Now, they confront the most lethal opponent they’ve ever faced: A terrifying threat emerging from the shadows of the past who’s fueled by blood revenge, and who is determined to shatter this family and destroy everything – and everyone – that Dom loves, forever.
