There’s a new Joker: Folie À Deux trailer and it finally showcases some of the film’s musical elements. Take a look below.

Just hours after Joker: Folie À Deux was confirmed to be competing for the coveted Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, Warner Bros. has released a spanking new look at the film.

Take a look at the Joker: Folie À Deux trailer below.

While the first trailer, released in April, mostly avoided showing the film’s musical elements, the second trailer shows a lot more. It ends with Harley and Arthur singing Get Happy from Summer Stock. Still not a lot, but then again, it seems to be a trend now to hide a film’s musical numbers in trailers

Joaquin Phoenix will return to play Arthur Fleck, aka Joker, and Lady Gaga joins him as Harley Quinn. Traditionally, Harley has been a psychiatrist at Arkham who is seduced by Joker, but director and co-writer has mixed up a bit and Harley is a fellow patient this time around.

Here’s the official synopsis: Joker: Folie À Deux finds Arthur Fleck institutionalized at Arkham awaiting trial for his crimes as Joker. While struggling with his dual identity, Arthur not only stumbles upon true love, but also finds the music thatā€™s always been inside him.

There’s also a little courtroom drama in Joker: Folie À Deux’s DNA as we trailer shows scenes inside a courtroom. It looks like Arthur is representing himself, dolled up with his signature Joker makeup and making his case to the judge and jury.

Brendan Gleeson and Catherine Keener are also joining the film’s cast with Gleeson playing one of the guards at Arkham. Zazie Beetz is also reprising her role as Sophie, Arthur’s old neighbour with whom Arthur imagined a whole relationship in the first film.

The film will certainly be a big part of next year’s awards season, and Variety predicts that Warner Bros. will campaign Gaga in the supporting actress category instead of lead actress.  Phoenix will presumably be in contention for Best Actor, an award he previously nabbed for the first film.

Joker: Folie À Deux is set to premiere on 4th October in cinemas.
