The in-demand director Nikyatu Jusu will helm a modern bloodsucker film along with a Night Of The Living Dead sequel.

Nikyatu Jusu is a filmmaker in demand. Not only did her upcoming film Nanny win the Sundance Grand Jury Prize earlier this year, but she was also announced last month as the director of a new film in the legendary Night Of The Living Dead series for Village Roadshow Pictures.

It has now been revealed that Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions has swooped in to secure Jusu’s talents for another project, adapting Jusu’s own 2019 vampire short Suicide By Sunlight into a feature-length film. “My project with Monkeypaw is an expansion of a short film I made called Suicide By Sunlight,” Jusu told Deadline, “about day-walking Black vampires who are protected from the sun by their melanin.”

The original short film was set ‘in a near-future New York City’ and tells the story of Valentina, who “is forced to suppress her bloodlust to regain custody of her estranged daughters.’

It’s not yet known whether the feature film adaptation will develop the same plot or simply keep the core concept but if your interest is piqued, you can watch Jusu’s original short on Vimeo right here.

As for Nanny, you can catch the highly-anticipated thriller when it gets a limited release on this Friday in cinemas before hitting Amazon Prime Video in mid-December.
