Jason Segel and Harrison Ford are back in the new series of Shrinking ā hereās the trailer for Shrinking season 2, that lands next month.
Bill Lawrence is probably best known for creating Scrubs, the wonderful hospital sitcom which ran for nine seasons from 2002 to 2009 ā there have been talks of a Scrubs return for many years, but recently Lawrence and the cast have indicated it would be happening soon.
It showcased Lawrence’s skill in weaving incredible pathos through a show crammed with jokes – My Lunch from season 5 may just be one of the best examples of this in any sitcom – and he has only gone from strength to strengh.
After six seasons of Cougar Town starring Courtney Cox, he co-created Ted Lasso with Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt, which soon became a global phenomenon due to its mix of hope, kindness and uncynical humour.
That brings us to Shrinking, which he co-created with Jason Segel and Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein. Segel stars as therapist Jimmy, who is struggling following the loss of his wife. He begins to take liberties with his work, telling patients exactly what he thinks. Harrison Ford, showing a brilliant flair for deadpan comic delivery, plays his hardnosed boss, Jessica Williams is his colleague and Christa Miller is his neighbour.
According to Deadline, the synopsis for series 2 reads as follows:
Season 2 sees Jimmy continuing to reconnect with his daughter Alice (Lukita Maxwell) while mourning the loss of his wife. Meanwhile, Ford’s Dr. Paul Rhoades comes to terms with his Parkinson’s diagnosis after sparking a romance with his neurologist Dr. Julie Baram (Wendie Malick).
Luke Tennie, Michael Urie and Ted McGinley are also in the cast. Goldstein will appear as a guest star.
Bad Monkey, another show created by Lawrence starring Vince Vaughn, premiered on Apple TV last month.
Series 2 of Shrinking will stream on Apple TV from the 16th October.
