Olivia Wilde is set to direct the film Naughty, which comes from the scribe behind this year’s Cocaine Bear.

Two films in, Olivia Wilde as a movie director has had to deal with a gigantic amount of issues that ordinarily might be expected to be spread over many more productions. The acclaimed Booksmart and the liked but less acclaimed Don’t Worry Darling are to her name as a director thus far. She’s now chosen the project that’s going to be number three on her list.

It’s a comedy by the name of Naughty, that has come from the pen of a man named Jimmy Warden. He was credited this year with the script for Cocaine Bear, and if he came up with the ambulance sequence, then I’m very happy to buy him a nice coffee.

Warden wrote the script on spec, which in turn has led to lots of studios deciding they want to make it. An old fashioned bidding war for the project thus got underway, and whaddya know, we appear to have a winner.

Universal Pictures, which released the aforementioned Cocaine Bear, has snapped up the script. It’s a film that’s got the production company LuckyChap involved as well, which brings along Margot Robbie amongst its producers. And Olivia Wilde will indeed be directing the movie.

The report over at Deadline suggests that it’s along the lines of Bridesmaids, if Bridesmaids was set in the North Pole. It involves a search for Santa Claus and a bit of gaslighting as well, so plenty of ingredients for all concerned to have a bit of fun with.

With a director and screenplay in place, we’d imagine that Universal will be ready to move Naughty forward relatively quickly. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more about it, but once the cast is in place, expect filming to get underway in 2024.

More as we hear it.
