There’s more Percy Jackson And The Olympians in our future as Disney+ renews the series for a second season.

It’s been merely a week since the grand finale of Percy Jackson And The Olympians finale on Disney+. We were big fans of the 8-part first season, so it is with great pleasure that we can report that more is on the way.

That’s right, Disney+ has officially renewed Percy Jackson And The Olympians for season 2. The news was announced yesterday (7th Feb) during Disney’s Q1 earnings call, during which we also got updates on upcoming release dates and the surprise announcement of Moana 2, which will be in cinemas later this year.

Series creator and author of the book series, Rick Riordan, shared the news online.

“I can’t wait to bring the next season of #PercyJackson to @DisneyPlus! Raise anchors. Hoist the mainsail. All hands on deck, demigods. We’re heading for the Sea of Monsters!” Riordan wrote in an Instagram post from the Percy Jackson Instagram account.

Season two will adapt the second book in the series, titled The Sea of Monsters. The book series currently has six books, with a seventh due to be released in September, so there’s plenty of material to keep the series going way beyond a second season.

As noted here by The Hollywood Reporter, Percy Jackson And The Olympians was a pretty big hit for Disney+ in terms of views, which are calculated by dividing the total viewing time by running time. Disney+ reported that the series earned 13.3 million views over the first six days.

In her 4-star review of the finale and the whole series, Lauren Miles had this to say of the season: “Not only does Percy Jackson And The Olympians follow Riordan’s books closely and capture well the magic of the world the author created, it also works hard to convey the message at the heart of them. Scobell’s closing narration echoes the entire point of Riordan’s books: that even if you feel out of place, if you don’t fit in, you can still achieve great things.”

There’s no news regarding a potential release date or casting news for season 2 but we’d expect the core cast to return to their critically acclaimed roles. We’ll keep you posted when we know more.
