Writer and director Gary Sinyor started telling his story on LinkedIn – and attracted the funding for Perfect Wedding Days! Here’s the trailer.
Writer, producer and director first came to prominence off the back of the 1992 movie Leon The Pig Farmer. At a time when the British film industry was on its knees, here was an ultra-low-budget comedy that he co-produced and co-directed with Vadim Jean that someone cut through. It doesn’t sound much, but for a tiny indie film such as Leon The Pig Farmer to gross over £600,000 at the UK box office back then was like lighting a flare for others to follow.
Others have, not least Sinyor with his latest project. Over the years, he’s directed movies such as the spoof Stiff Upper Lips and Chris O’Donnell-headlined romcom The Bachelor. But like many filmmakers, in more recent years – particular in the comedy and romcom space – finding backers for a project feels harder than ever.
I’d seen Sinyor regularly posting on LinkedIn, hustling to try and get fresh projects off the ground. And it was through this that he landed funding for his latest movie, and his first in nearly a decade: Perfect Wedding Days.
Starring Mattias Inwood, Leah White, Holly White, Joe da Costa, Mike Fenton Stevens and Gina Bellman, the movie was shot in the UK and Panama, and is complete. It’s heading off to the American Film Market in search of distribution, and a trailer for the film has landed here…
No release date as of yet, but I’m keeping a keen eye out for news on the movie. Because, not for the first time, Sinyor is opening up a path that others might follow too. Who knew LinkedIn could be an answer?
For now, we’ll leave you with the synopsis…
Set in St Petersburg, Florida, the film follows Dan, on his second marriage, and Liz, on her first, who keep waking up on the morning of their wedding. Beach, church, a Jewish wedding, then eloping to London: every attempt goes wrong. Meanwhile Liz’s sister Julia and Dan’s friend Simon hook up at every one. Behind it all is a curse.
