Mike Colter is still keen to make Plane 2, known as Ship. But the strikes of 2023 have left the film still stuck in port. More on it here.
There’s much to enjoy about the Gerard Butler vehicle – yeah, I did it – Plane. It’s a whole heap of fun, as the Geostorm star lands his plane in a place he shouldn’t land his plane, and all sorts of stuff, well, ‘happens’. No spoilers, but it turned out to be a deserved box office hit, and plans were immediately scrambled for a sequel.
Cunningly, that was going by the name of Ship, and you can probably work out from the expressive title the mode of transport that the focus is set to be on.
Mike Colter was set to take the lead in Ship, having co-starred in Plane. It was unclear whether Gerard Butler would be reappearing, but still, all looking like it was moving forward.
But Ship has not moved, and Mike Colter has now confirmed this in an interview at Indiana Comic-Con over the weekend. Turns out that the strikes of 2023 stopped the momentum of the movie, which remains stuck.
“There’s things going on”, Colter explained. “Obviously Gerard and his company that produce that, they own the rights to it”, he added, as to why he couldn’t give a more detailed answer.
“I got things going on. I’m sure he’s got things going on too, he’s shooting stuff. But I’d love to do the sequel, but it’s in their ball park right now. It’s another thing to pray for.”
I’ll add it the prayer list, alongside world peace and consequences for billionaires.
There’s been so little word on Ship over the last year or two that something is a little better than nothing. Still, it sounds like it remains in limbo for now, hopefully simply because they’re working out a film universe that includes Car, Train, Unicycle and Tractor.
I’d watch every one of them. More as we hear it.
