Chris Pine’s directorial debut Poolman is on the way, and you can get your first look right here.

Chris Pine’s Poolman is set to release next month courtesy of Vertical in the US and Signature Entertainment here in the UK. Poolman marks Pine’s directorial debut and is said to be an LA-based mystery comedy which to our mind, brings forth notes of The Big Lebowski or Under The Silver Lake.

Whether Poolman can hit these highs remains to be seen, although the film did find itself coming under some fire when it released at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival. Still, we won’t be judging it until we’ve seen it with our own eyes and the opportunity to do that will soon be arising. The film releases on the 10th of May in the US although here in the UK, Signature haven’t yet dated its release.

In the film, Pine stars as Darren Barrenman, ‘a hapless dreamer who spends his days maintaining the pool of a Tiki-themed L.A. apartment block and crashing city council meetings with his neighbors (Danny DeVito, Annette Bening).

When Barrenman uncovers the greatest water heist in LA history, he makes uneasy alliances with a beautiful and connected femme fatale while following every lead he can with corrupt city officials, burned-out Hollywood types, and mysterious benefactors.’

Jennifer Jason Leigh, DeWanda Wise, Ray Wise, Juliet Mills, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Clancy Brown co-star. That is quite the cast. You can catch the trailer for the film below, ahead of its release (hopefully) next month.

We’re excited to see Pine take the ongoing battle of who is the best Hollywood Chris into uncharted territory with his first foray into directing. The actor (and now director) doesn’t seem to have much else on his slate for release in 2024 so this could be your only chance to enjoy his talents on a big screen this year. Here’s that trailer below.
