Following last year’s successful revival of the Predator franchise, a report has emerged that claims Prey 2 is in the works.

Like lots of movie fans everywhere, we were really rather happy with Dan Trachtenberg’s Prey when it released last year, pushing the tired Predator franchise in a new direction whilst at the same time, rediscovering the stripped-back core of what made the series so bloody great in the first place. In the film, ‘Naru, a skilled warrior of the Comanche Nation, fought to protect her tribe against one of the first highly-evolved Predators to land on Earth.’

The response was strong enough to keep conversations about the franchise going, too.

Since the film’s release, Trachtenberg has spoken about plans for a follow-up. Perhaps most intriguing was his promise to take another ‘bold swing’, should he get the chance. Well, it looks like he may well be getting that opportunity. Production Weekly has Prey 2 listed as an in-development project and whilst it has yet to be officially announced, the very positive response to the first film means that this is likely happening.

Can we make a request at this point though? The only major disappointment surrounding the first film’s release was that it didn’t get a cinema release, instead going straight to Disney+ here in the UK and Hulu in the US. Although it only landed around a year ago, a lot has changed in the streaming landscape with Amazon committing to theatrical releases (through its MGM label), not to mention Apple doing the same. Furthermore, Disney is putting its new Alien film in cinemas in 2024, and that was originally planned for streaming.

Hopefully, Disney is looking at that and realise the potential that a Prey sequel has to be a theatrical success. We’ll let you know more on this one as we hear it.
