A new series of Prison Break is in the works, albeit with a different case. And, presumably, a new prison as well. More here.

Prison Break was one of those long running 2000s dramas that was hugely popular at the time but has faded into a nostalgic mist as the years have gone by.

It followed Dominic Purcell as Lincoln Burrows, a man sentenced to death for a crime he did not commit, and Wentworth Miller as his brother Michael Schofield, who hatches a plan to help Lincoln escape. It ran for five series and one feature length special from 2005 to 2017.

At its peak, it was really rather good too, even if as the seasons went on, it seemed to alternate between breaking into prison and breaking out. In the end, there’s only so much you can do with a title like that.

Or is there?

According to Variety, there’s a revival of the show is currently in the works at Hulu, the very same service that Disney is about to have to stump up over $8bn to take full control of.

Original creator Paul Scheuring will be an executive producer on the new series, while Mayans MC co-creator Elgin James will serve as showrunner and lead writer. Purcell and Miller are not involved this time around. Their escaping days appear to be behind them.

We’ll keep you updated as we hear more on the new Prison Break. In all likelihood, it’s a little way away thus far. Our pitch: set it in the future. After all, cinema has continually proven that it’s very, very hard to mess up the idea of a futuristic prison movie. Dig out the delightful Fortress for proof of that. And ideally lure Christopher Lambert in to star as well.

Come to think of it, just make another Fortress movie. That’ll do. We trust the good folks at Hulu will read this piece and duly adjust their plans forthwith.

More as we hear it.
