Gore Verbinski’s delightful animated comedy western Rango is finally getting a (deep breath) 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release. Here’s what’s on the disc:

While it made a reasonable amount of money on its original release, the animated movie Rango also sat in a place where it was probably a little too odd for many youngsters, and needed word of mouth to lure in the older audience. Thankfully, it got a good chunk of that, and Rango also in the end earned Gore Verbinski (he of the Pirates Of The Caribbean movies) an Academy Award too. Not bad for a film that he basically started putting together in his garage.

The film is, er, 13 years old now, which feels like just the right time to give it a 4K outing. Rango will be making its 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray debut this summer, and should, in fairness, look gorgeous. Its visuals lean into many classic movies, with doses of classic westerns and a bit of Chinatown in there too.

The film is heading to the 4K format on 29th July 2024, and you can find more information on the release, and order yourself a copy, right here.

The pack will come with a Blu-ray in the box, to bring across previous extra features. A fair amount of them, too, including a commentary track and deleted scenes as well.

The synopsis for the film, if you’re unfamiliar with it, reads as follows…

Winner of the Oscar® for Best Animated Feature (2011), RANGO comes to 4K Ultra HD™ for the first time ever. Rango is a kooky pet chameleon who finds himself tossed into a wild and raucous town in desperate need of a hero. Refreshingly original with eye-popping animation, this hysterical adventure features an all-star vocal cast led by Johnny Depp.

It’s a terrific film Rango, and the 4K disc is available for preordering now.
