Rebel Moon Part Two arrives on Netflix this week – and Zack Snyder confirms that his plans for a third film are ongoing.

At a point when Netflix is reportedly steering away from ‘auteur’ films to audience movies – as if those two things have to be different – it’s also on the verge of releasing the second of director Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon films.

The first part, Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child Of Fire had something of a mixed reception at best. This weekend we get Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, and then we get after that director’s cuts of both films (Snyder is estimating those to run three hours apiece, and be available at the end of the summer).

In spite of the middling response, Zack Snyder mentioned at the end of last year that he’s planning more films in the saga, and he’s doubled down on that in new interview with Forbes.

“We have definitely been working on a Part Three,” he confirmed to the outlet. “We definitely know where we’re all headed – we’ve known that for quite a while, to be honest. So yeah, I’m excited to make some more Rebel Moon movies – that would be fun.”

He’s not giving anything away at the moment as to the direction of the next film, but also, Netflix hasn’t yet confirmed that it’s willing to stump up for another. The statistics that the streamer was willing to share suggested that it was the ninth biggest launch for a film on the service in 2023. Conversely, it was one of Netflix’s more expensive bets, with the two films apiece coming in at around $170m.

We’ll have more on Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver at the end of the week. Once that’s out in the world, and once Netflix has a handle on how well or otherwise it’s done, then we’ll get a better idea as to whether Zack Snyder gets to make another one.

We’ll keep you posted.
