Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez are set to reprise their roles in a Red, White & Royal Blue sequel. More on the film below.

Red, White & Royal Blue was last year’s biggest queer phenomenon. We loved the film so much that we even put it on the cover of our magazine and in our review, we said “we need more rom-coms like this”.

It looks like we will be getting at least one more rom-com like Red, White & Royal Blue. Prime Video has announced that a sequel is in the works, with Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez returning to their roles as Prince Henry and Alex Claremont-Diaz. Matthew López, who made his directorial debut with the first film, is returning to write the script with Casey McQuiston. No official word on whether López will also direct the sequel.

The film followed the forbidden romance between the British Prince Henry and the son of the President of the United States, Alex. The pair struggle with expectations, both public and private, and their sexuality. The film received positive reviews and has retained a 76 percent critic score and 93 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes

Galitzine can currently be see in The Idea Of You, which is now streaming on Prime Video. Earlier this week, GQ published an interview with Galitzine. In it, Galitzine expressed uncertainty about accepting queer roles as a straight man.

“I felt a sense of uncertainty sometimes about whether I’m taking up someone’s space, and perhaps guilt. At the same time, I see those characters as not solely their sexuality,” Galitzine told the magazine. The actor also said the attention he has been receiving after his turns in Red, White & Royal Blue and Bottoms has left him feeling like “cut of beef at a meat market”.

Plot details and the release date for the sequel are being kept under wraps for now. The film was based on a novel of the same name by Casey McQuiston, and while there are no sequels to the novel, there is an extended ending. If you purchase a collector’s edition of the book, there’s an extra chapter that dives deeper into Henry and Alex’s relationship. Could the sequel flesh that chapter out a bit into a feature-length film?

We’ll keep you posted on more Red, White & Royal Blue sequel news as it comes in.
