A trilogy of The Strangers films are on the way, with Renny Harlin at the helm, casting details have also been confirmed.

The Strangers is one of the stronger entries in the home invasion genre. Released in 2008, it saw a trio of masked killers terrorise Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman in their home. A decade later, The Strangers: Prey At Night hit cinemas. The sequel saw the same premise play out in a trailer park.

It has now been confirmed that a new rumoured trilogy of Strangers films will be remakes rather than direct sequels, produced by Lionsgate. Original writer and director Bryan Bertino is not involved.

The first film of the trilogy will follow a young woman as she drives across the country with her boyfriend to begin a new life in the Pacific Northwest. When their car breaks down in Oregon, they’re forced to spend the night in a secluded Airbnb, where they are terrorized from dusk till dawn by three masked strangers.

Riverdale star Madelaine Petsch stars as main character alongside Froy Gutierrez as her boyfriend. Gabriel Basso will also feature.

Renny Harlin, who has form in the horror genre, having helmed 1988’s A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, is taking the directorial reins this time around, working from a screenplay by Due Date writers Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland.

The Strangers is currently in production. We’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
