Resident Evil 4 Remake is out today, which means lots of us will spend the weekend alternately shooting angry villagers and admiring the back of Leon S Kennedyās head. If you have fond memories of the original Resident Evil 4, though, you may also remember the Mercenaries mode, a survival challenge that involved gunning down enemies and racking up points. The mode isnāt currently available in the main game, but Capcomās Edvin Edso revealed back in February that The Mercenaries would be made available as a free DLC after launch. Thanks to IGN, we now know exactly when that DLC will drop ā 7 April, to be precise. As was the case with the 2005 Resident Evil 4, The Mercenaries isnāt immediately available ā youāll first have to complete the main campaign to unlock it. In case youāre still on the fence about Resident Evil 4, Capcom has put out a final launch trailer to win you over. It shows off the remakeās startlingly detailed new graphics, and some of the finest haircuts youāll see in any video game this year. If youāre keen to avoid seeing any of the survival horror redoās zanier set-pieces, though, weād politely suggest you skip the trailer ā there are some sequences in Resident Evil 4 that are best left as a surprise. In our review, resident (but not evil) critic Carlton Hill described the Resident Evil 4 remake as ānear perfectā, with familiar characters and locations given a modern overhaul, and Leon now able to access some smart new moves. The most horrifying trip to Spain ever captured in a game now looks better than ever. Weāre intrigued to see whether Capcom have taken a similarly bold approach to The Mercenaries ā though if itās just the 2005 mode with prettier graphics, weāll still be happy.
