Doug Liman’s remake of the 1980s classic Road House, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, is heading to Prime Video soon – and here’s a trailer to prove it…

That’s a lot of broken bones! Not that we’re mad about it. In fact, we’re quite excited.
Liman has been in the headlines recently after he criticised Prime Video for not giving Road House a proper theatrical release. According to Liman, the film tested higher than his film Mr & Mrs. Smith, but Prime Video still wasn’t keen on releasing it in cinemas.
“What else could I have delivered to the studio? Nothing, it turns out,” Liman wrote in a guest column for Deadline. “Because contrary to their public statements, Amazon has no interest in supporting cinemas. Amazon will exclusively stream Road House on Amazon Prime. Amazon asked me and the film community to trust them and their public statements about supporting cinemas, and then they turned around and are using Road House to sell plumbing fixtures.”
It’s hard not to agree with Liman, especially after seeing the trailer. The film looks like a lot of fun, but will it be as fun watching it on my laptop at home with socks drying on the radiator next to me? Something tells me it would be a lot more fun in a cinema, but that’s just me.
Jake Gyllenhaal is joined by Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Arturo Castro and Lukas Gage. Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry penned the script based on the 1989 film of the same name. That one starred Patrick Swayze and Sam Elliott.
Here’s the synopsis:
“In this adrenaline-fueled reimagining of the 80s cult classic, ex-UFC fighter Dalton (Jake Gyllenhaal) takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems.”
Road House is streaming on Prime Video on 21st March.
