Robert Rodriguez has hinted that his Spy Kids reboot isn’t too far away from release: more details on Spy Kids: Armageddon here.

Robert Rodriguez’ original Spy Kids trilogy are some of the most fun, inventive family films of the era. Daryl Sabara and Alexa PenaVega starred as Juni and Carmen Cortez, kids who discover their dull parents, played by Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino, are actually retired spies. With a cracking ensemble cast that included Danny Trejo, Alan Cumming, Tony Shalhoub, Ricardo Montalban and even Sylvester Stallone, they stand up as delightfully imaginative stories.

Rodriguez rebooted the series a few years later with Spy Kids: All The Time In The World, followed by a television series for Netflix, Spy Kids: Mission Critical.

Rodriguez is staying with Netflix for another reboot, a film entitled Spy Kids: Armageddon.

The synopsis this time reads as follows:

When the children of the world’s greatest secret agents unwittingly help a powerful Game Developer unleash a computer virus that gives him control of all technology, they must become spies themselves to save their parents and the world.

Rodriguez directed the film and co-wrote the script with his son, Racer Rodriguez. Gina Rodriguez (no relation), Zachary Levi, Everly Carganilla and newcomer Connor Esterson will star.

Rodriguez revealed that the new film will be released in the latter half of 2023, telling Collider “I don’t know if I can say the release date, but it’s coming, it’s this year. We haven’t announced it yet, but it’s coming this year. I just finished scoring it, so you know, we’re still waiting for visual effects. It won’t be done until August, so it won’t be any earlier than August”.
