Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino are in final negotiations to reprise their roles in the long awaited sequel to Romy And Micheleā€™s High School Reunion.

It isnā€™t the focus of this article, but as weā€™re on the subject of 1990s high school reunion films, Grosse Point Blank is very much worth your time, featuring one of John Cusackā€™s finest performances. Itā€™s also got a brilliant punch up between Cusack and his real life martial arts teacher Benny ā€˜The Jetā€™ Urquidez, who was still very much in fine fettle over a decade after his two iconic bouts with Jackie Chan in Wheels On Meals and Dragons Forever.

What is the focus of this article is the underrated 1997 comedy Romy And Micheleā€™s High School Reunion, which saw Mira Sorvino and Friends alum Lisa Kudrow play the titular pair, outcasts who decide to lie about their success in life at their high school reunion. Hi jinks ensue.

The cast also included Janeane Garofalo, Alan Cumming, Camryn Manheim, Elaine Hendrix and Justin Theroux.

A, well, reunion, has been on the cards for several years, with Sorvino and Kudrow repeatedly reiterating their love of the film and their desire to make a sequel. Earlier this year, it suddenly looked like it was back on the cards, too.

According to Deadline, the deal is all but done, with Kudrow and Sorvino in final negotiations to reprise their roles and executive produce.

We also now know that Tim Federle, who previously directed High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, will helm the film from a script by original writer Robin Schiff. David Mirkin directed the first film. Other original cast members are expected to reprise their roles, but nobody else is confirmed as of yet.

Weā€™ll keep you updated as we hear more. In the meantime, you can stream Romy And Micheleā€™s High School Reunion on Disney+.
