A sequel to seminal drama The Joy Luck Club is on the way, and the original creative team is returning.
It’s been over thirty years since The Joy Luck Club hit cinemas back in 1992. The drama, about a group of Chinese-American women and their familial relationships, was an important milestone in the representation of Asian Americans onscreen.
Now, a sequel is in the works. Original screenwriters Ronald Bass and Amy Tan, who also wrote the novel the film was based on, are back on board to pen the film.
The original cast, which included Tsai Chin, Kieu Chinh, Lisa Lu, France Nuyen, Rosalind Chao, Lauren Tom, Tamlyn Tomita and Ming-Na Wen are also in talks to reprise their roles, as their families are expanded to include children and grandchildren.
There are no dates attached to this one as of yet, but we’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
