The M3GAN universe is expanding as Blumhouse is planning a new entry into the franchise with Soulm8te.
M3GAN was one of 2023’s biggest hits. After the trailer went viral, expectations were high for the creepy robot doll movie and the film more than delivered on the promise of campy horror with a side of thoughtful exploration of AI.
We already knew that a M3GAN sequel was on the way, but Blumhosue and Atomic Monster are also working on another film set in the same universe. Titled Soulm8te, the film is set for release in 2026.
Variety reports that the film will follow a man who “acquires an Artificially Intelligent android to cope with the loss of his recently deceased wife.” That seems like a great idea. We hope nothing goes wrong!
“In an attempt to create a truly sentient partner, he inadvertently turns a harmless lovebot into a deadly soulmate,” the synopsis states. The film is also described to be in the style of “’90s domestic thrillers but with a modern, technological twist.”
Kate Dolan will direct from a script she revised from Rafael Jordan’s first draft. James Wan, Ingrid Bisu and Jordan are credited with the story.
“Fundamentally, I view this film as an exploration of relationships and loneliness,” Dolan said about the project. “Despite technological advances, there are enduring human truths we cannot escape, and I am looking forward to delving into those depths.”
“’Soulm8te’ is a thrilling and seductive addition to the ‘M3GAN’ universe,” James Wan added. “We’re excited to partner with Kate to bring this story to life with her unique cinematic vision and point of view.”
Soulm8te is scheduled to be released in the US on 2nd January, 2026. There’s no official UK distributor or release date, but we’re sure one will follow imminently.
More on Soulm8te as we hear it.
