One half of the Coen brothers is still flying solo with a follow-up film announced to his upcoming lesbian road trip movie, Drive-Away Dolls. It’s called Honey Don’t!

Just last week we heard from Ethan Coen that he and brother Joel, the artists collectively known as the Coen brothers, are once again working on a project together. Given that the duo’s long-time partnership seemed to have paused back in 2018 following The Ballad Of Buster Scruggs for Netflix, that was cause for celebration.

Not that we’re opposed to each filmmaker working on solo projects: the last movie that each filmmaker worked on was a solo outing, although the world at large has only seen one thus far: in 2021, Joel made The Tragedy Of Macbeth while Ethan has co-directed Drive Away Dolls, a ‘lesbian road movie’ due to release next month following a strike-related delay from last year.

While it looks like the brothers are set to reunite at some point, it seems that they might be carrying on with their solo endeavours too, given that Joel Coen is set to make another film in the wake of Drive-Away Dolls, it has been announced. Coen co-wrote the film with his wife, Tricia Cooke, and the pair have developed the film together too – it’s called Honey Don’t!.

Casting has been announced for the project, and it sounds like a lot of fun: a leading trio of Margaret Qualley, Aubrey Plaza and Chris Evans are set to star, and while we don’t know too much, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that ‘the story is set in Bakersfield, California. Qualley (who has a role in Drive-Away Dolls) will play a private eye, Plaza will star as a mysterious woman and Evans will portray the leader of a cult.’

The tone is said to be the same ‘pulpy’ flavour of Drive-Away Dolls and shooting will begin in March in New Mexico.

We really like the casting here. Following some criticism over his post-MCU project choices, this feels like exactly the kind of role Chris Evans needs, whilst Aubrey Plaza’s taste in projects is always adept. You can catch Drive-Away Dolls when it releases on the 15th March.
