Chris Hemsworth will lead the cast of the Amazon MGM production Subversion, which he’ll jump to after Avengers: Doomsday.
What could be bigger than teaming up with the Avengers once more, you might ask when considering where Chris Hemsworth might be headed after he wraps up production on Avengers: Doomsday?
Well, how about a submarine? They’re pretty big, right? Also, it’s a statistical fact that there are very few bad films that are set on a submarine. Down Periscope is a bit ropey, but even that has charms.
Anyway, Chris Hemsworth will indeed be teaming up with a submarine for his next project, Subversion, a ‘submarine thriller’ that is being backed by Amazon MGM, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Written by Andrew Ferguson, the story focuses ‘on a once-promising Naval commander (Hemsworth) who is blackmailed by a cartel-like operation into piloting a dangerous submarine carrying illegal cargo across international waters. Thrust into a high-stakes game of cat and mouse, the man must outmaneuver blockades and navigate perilous threats both in and outside of the submarine.’
7500's Patrick Vollrath will direct while Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing. Production will begin this autumn in Australia.
Let’s just hope that the production has hired a different submarine to that unhelpful one that cost Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning production oodles of extra cash when it refused to be lowered into the water, pushing production back by several weeks and sending costs on the movie even higher.
No other casting has been announced for the film as of yet, nor do we know if this one is bound for a theatrical release. When we do hear more though, we’ll let you know.
As well as a couple of Avengers movies, Hemsworth also has several other projects in the works, including Extraction 3 for Netflix – also said to be currently filming – and an untitled GI Joe/Transformers crossover project in the works. Then there’s Amazon MGM’s Crime 101 which co-stars Mark Ruffalo, Barry Keoghan, Halle Berry and Monica Barbaro. We’ll bring you more on Subversion when we hear it.
