AppleTV+ has renewed Sugar, a mystery drama starring Colin Farrell, for season 2. More on the news below.
AppleTV+ really is on top of the TV game at the moment. They’re getting ready to finally release Silo season 2 in November and they’ve found great success with shows like Slow Horses, Ted Lasso and Severance to mention a few. A lot of their success seems to come from the streaming service’s willingness to renew their shows for new seasons and allowing the characters and narratives to develop over time.
The latest TV series getting the green light for another season is Sugar, as Variety reports. The mystery drama / tech noir stars Colin Farrell as Detective John Sugar, who investigates the disappearance of a movie mogul’s granddaughter while also confronting some of his own demons.
“It has been incredibly exciting to see audiences around the world embrace ‘Sugar,’ and we are thrilled to return for a second season,” said executive producers Audrey Chon and Simon Kinberg of the renewal. “We’re so grateful to our partners at Apple for their support, our showrunner Sam Catlin, the brilliant Colin Farrell, and of course, our viewers. We can’t wait to get John Sugar back on the case.”
Farrell will return for season 2 which will be overseen by showrunner Sam Catlin. No other casting news has been released yet, but season 1 also starred Kirby, Amy Ryan, James Cromwell, Anna Gunn, Dennis Boutsikaris, Nate Corddry, Sydney Chandler, and Alex Hernandez.
Farrell is also currently starring in The Penguin, a spin-off series of his character from 2022’s The Batman. You can read our latest episode review here.
“Since its premiere, audiences have been gripped by the mysteries and twists of ‘Sugar,’ with an incredible performance by Colin Farrell at the center,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+. “Colin, Simon Kinberg, Audrey Chon and the entire team behind this series have brilliantly blended genres to create a compelling, can’t-miss series that keeps viewers guessing, and we cannot wait to see where Detective John Sugar finds himself in season two.”
The first season of the show included one twist so unreal we won’t reveal it here, simply because you wouldn’t believe us if we did. With that in mind, it seems that anything is possible in season 2. We’ll let you know when we hear more news about it.
