Matthias Schoenaerts has landed the role of the antagonist in DC Studios’ upcoming Supergirl. More on the casting below.

James Gunn and Peter Safran are hard at work crafting the new era of DC Studios. Gunn’s own Superman film ā€“ simply titled Superman ā€“ is heading into cinemas next year and we can expect a Supergirl solo movie a year later

House Of The Dragon’s Milly Alcock will play the titular hero, and Deadline now reports that Matthias Schoenaerts has been cast as the film’s villain. There’s no official word on who that villain might be, but the film’s script has been adapted from the Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow comic book in which Krem of the Yellow Hill is the main antagonist.

Schoenaerts has been seen in films such as Jacques Audiard’s Rust And Bone, Netflix’s The Old Guard (as pictured at the top of this article) and most recently, opposite Kate Winslet in HBO’s The Regime. The actor is also attached to the long-delayed The Old Guard 2

Supergirl is heading into cinemas 26th June, 2026 and will be directed by I, Tonya’s Craig Gillespie. The script is the handiwork of Ana Nogueira.

This isn’t Supergirl’s first big screen outing. The character had a very successful TV show, starring Melissa Benoist, which ran from 2015 to 2021, but the character also had a solo movie in 1984 in which Helen Slater played Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl. The film also starred Faye Dunaway, Mia Farrow and Peter O’Toole. It wasnā€™t very good.

We’ll bring you more Supergirl news as we hear it.
