The original Superman film is heading back out onto the big screen in the UK in April: more details here.

Well, here’s a treat. Often cited as the template for the finest of superhero films, and certainly the first big blockbuster movie of its type, the original Superman film dates all the way back to 1978. As such, it’s celebrating its 45th birthday this year. And further as such, it’s going to be heading back to UK cinemas.

For those who’ve never had the chance to see this on the big screen, it’s a hell of a treat you’re in for. Richard Donner directs, Christopher Reeve stars, and John Williams does a score that sounds really rather fine through a cinema sound system.

The film is also being freshly remastered for a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release (along with Superman II, Superman III and Superman IV: The Quest For Peace), but it’s the original that’s coming back to the big screen.

Look for it from Friday April 7th in the UK. And treat yourself if you can, it should be getting quite a wide release…
